Cultybraggan Camp - Community buy out
Location
Cultybraggan is at the entrance to Glenartney, an ancient Royal deer forest that supplied venison to the Sovereigns of Scotland at Holyrood, Dunfermline and Falkland. Steeped in history and natural beauty, it has been a favourite of many Scottish Royal Houses and Sir Walter Scott immortalised it in The Lady of the Lake.

MOD handover the keys to Cultybraggan
The keys of Cultybraggan Camp were handed over to CDT by the MOD on 20th September 2007, so now we really do own it.
We did it we own Cultybraggan!
On Friday 6th July 2007 the Comrie Development Trust signed the legal documentation to purchase the old Cultybraggan Training Camp from the MOD for the benefit of the community. This historic and major community buyout of land was effected under the Land Reform legislation and the deal involves the purchase of 90 acres of land for the benefit of the people of Comrie.

Funding for the £350,000 purchase price was obtained from the charitable foundation, the Tudor Trust, with the Big Lottery fund via HIE and Scottish Enterprise having supported business planning for the deal.

Ministers approval to proceed with purchase
The Trust has received the formal go ahead from the Scottish Executive to proceed with the purchase of Cultybraggan by the deadline of the 7th September 2007. Following the overwhelming support for the idea through the community ballot, the Trust had to submit the results of the ballot with an outline business case for the purchase to Scottish Ministers at the Parliament. This is the final hurdle of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. As long as we can raise the purchase cost and our community are happy with the plans, we can all own 90 acres of land in September. In addition to this approval we received words of encouragement from the Minister!
Next Stage
All attention is now turning to working with the village to agree options for the land and prepare a full business plan to ensure that the plans are financially sustainable. The Trust are now deeply involved in meetings with the consultancy team to make sure everyone is ready to take a decision before the deadline. Full details of how villagers can get involved, when meetings will be and what will be happening over the next couple of months will be announced shortly.
Design day
Nearly 400 people took part in the big Design Day for Cultybraggan at the end of January showing the local enthusiasm to look at the future of the camp. The MOD were expected to tell Scottish Ministers at the beginning of February that they wanted to sell the site, triggering a seven-month period for our community to consider whether or not we want to buy it.
Look out for notices in the village and the Strathearn Herald for progress reports and community meetings.
