Comrie Community Council urgently require new Community Councillors to come forward or the Community Council could fold.

The Community Council is an essential support to the local community. More people are needed to stand for election so please consider whether you could dedicate some of your free time to support the local community and bring new ideas to the Community Council.

Andrew Finlayson the current Chairperson spoke out at the CC’s AGM of how much has been done and how we need members of the community to come forward to continue the success of our CC:

This is the last chair’s report of the current 4 year session of this Community Council as we prepare to stand down in anticipation of full Community Council Elections in November. Since I was elected 5 years ago, in what was really the last full & proper elections, CCC has lost the services of 11 Community Councillors and of this remaining band of 6 perhaps half are unlikely to stand in the coming election.

However you look at it the end of this year will see a new era in this Community Council. As I too will be standing down in October I would like to take this opportunity to thank and applaud the Community Councillors I have worked with over the last five years. It has been a pleasure to work with a diverse bunch of such good people who have freely volunteered their time and energy to best represent, in a genuinely non partisan way, the community of Comrie as a whole.

For us the last few years have been pretty tumultuous what with the floods, the retirals of many Community Councillors, illnesses, surgical operations and, perhaps most challengingly, what appears to have been the sudden near exponential rise in the amount of issues we are being encouraged to address. e.g this month I have received or sent some 140 e-mails.

This year, in common with previous years, I think we have made valuable contribution to the common good. We have provided an open forum for various local bodies, interest groups & individuals to either promote their good causes, resolve their grievances or simply acted as a potent conduit to the various powers that be. Through our close relationship with our valued and appreciated P&K Councillors, the Council itself, the police, the Fire Service, neighbouring Community Councils etc we have managed to make a difference to the benefit of the Community. We have also learned the frustrations of our own limitations not least with operating well under strength for much of our time.
In June this year we lost our dauntless Secretary Sandra McRitchie and in December we lost our redoubtable Roads Crusader Gill Brock. Both contributed greatly to the community as Community Councillors. We are happy that Sandra is, however, able to soldier on as our webmaster and delighted at the success and revenue stream she encourages.

Most recent our new Secretary Pam Manning had to retire due to unforeseen circumstances and she leaves with our appreciation for all her efforts not least the processing of approximately 100 e-mails per month. It is an increasing challenging task to sort out what’s relevant and what’s not.
