Melville Lane Concerns for Flambeaux Parade

Following a number of complaints and concerns regarding the potholes at Melville Lane I can confirm that the Flambeaux Committee will effect a temporary repair to the lane to ensure that the Flambeaux carriers are safe.

I can also confirm that PKC have committed to repair the potholes at the South side of Dalginross Bridge (at the Field of Refuge entrance) again for safety before they finish up on Friday.

Comrie Gas Mains Replacement – Update

I received this message yesterday:

Good Afternoon Sandra,

As we are in process of shutting down and clearing the area for the Xmas period, I thought a brief update might be in order:

Gowanlea Rd / Strathview Tce area is complete except for some grass reinstatement which will need to wait until springtime.

Dalginross largely complete but some services and side streets are still to be connected to the new main, primarily between Barrack Road and the bridge.

Barrack Road will be closed to traffic on our return from holiday to allow open cut mainlaying here. Residents vehicle access will be available out of hours, and the teams will accommodate daytime access whenever possible. Pedestrian access will not be affected.

South Crieff Road and Braco Road will follow on from Barrack Road.

Ralph Caldwell, Team Manager

Funding for New Project at Cultybraggan

Comrie Development Trust now has further news about decisions concerning funding, which will enable the Trust to proceed with a great new project – The repair and refurbishment of 11 Nissen huts to create a self catering development at the community owned Cultybraggan Camp, the former POW and army base site by Comrie.

Whilst the Steinmeyer legacy will be entirely used for developments to benefit older people in Comrie and the area following a period of consultation, the self catering development will: safeguard the future of 11 B listed properties; provide excellent holiday and group accommodation in a beautiful Perthshire location; deliver an economic and employment boost from the construction process and visitors staying in the area; assist the Trust’s efforts to become financially sustainable; and benefit the local community through surpluses eventually made from the self-catering business. There is also an associated Heritage Activity and Training Plan to be established over the next two years.
The mix of funding for the self-catering development has come through the exceptional financial support coming from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and the SSE Sustainable Development Fund and money raised through a community share offer, with community shareholders to manage the new business through Cultybraggan Heritage Self-Catering Society. This comes at the end of five years of work by CDT, and promises to be a great development for the Comrie area. There will be substantial activity for Comrie Development Trust next year during the tendering, repair and refurbishment phases of the development, and for the Cultybraggan Heritage Self-Catering Society Management Committee in preparing to manage the self-catering business from 2018. CDT is hoping to finalise funding for two additional staff to help implement both the self catering development and heritage/events development. But, whether or not this extra funding can be found, both the Trust and Self Catering Society Management Committee need additional voluntary help from the area to support their work. Please contact the CDT office by email ( or phone (answer-phone message 01764 670769)
