Comrie Development Trust

History of the Trust

In May 2005 the Comrie Development Group was formed following an exceptional presentation in the village by the Westray Development Trust from Orkney. Those attending were inspired by what can be achieved by a local community to secure the long-term health and vitality of their area. Over the next year the Group worked with local people and groups to explore the potential of a Development Trust for Comrie.

What we do

In October 2005 the Group held a major community meeting to introduce the idea of a Development Trust and discuss priorities for action. The meeting agreed to establish a Development Trust for the village and prioritised a number of themes including:

• Meeting the needs of young people

• Care for the elderly and vulnerable

• Affordable housing and workspace

• Multi-purpose sports facility at Laggan Park

• Renewable energy and sustainable development

• Village paths network

The future of Cultybraggan army camp

• Improving communication between local groups

• Developing social enterprises

Crucially the meeting emphasised the importance of working in partnership with local groups while developing new ideas and projects.

Cultybraggan

While Cultybraggan is taking up considerable effort by members of the Trust just now, however we are also working on a number of other projects including an off road route between Comrie and Crieff, the community cinema, renewable energy for public buildings and a community composting site.

The Trust has approached the Laggan Park Committee to discuss possible improvements to the facilities available at the park. Membership of the Trust is now over 500. This makes it one of the best represented Trusts in Scotland a status it acheived only six-months after formation.
