Comrie in Colour

2008 will herald the 15th year of operation of the team of volunteers who comprise Comrie in Colour. Over this time we have undertaken many projects in an effort to improve the environment and produce a colourful display no matter the season. With the emphasis now upon sustainability and biodiversity our remit has widened to pay head to these aspects and we are particularly keen to involve the young people of the village.
To this end we have worked with the pupils of Comrie Primary School as we take forward the project of establishing a wild flower meadow in the Glebe of ST Serfs Church.

Bulb planting 2007Comrie village has won many awards over the years and 2007 was no exception. Two awards from the Beautiful Scotland campaign were:-
The Biodiversity Award and the Permanent Landscaping Trophy.
The pinnacle of our was however the awards received at a ceremony in Coventry Cathedral in the Britain in Bloom Campaign, where a much coveted Gold was awarded by the RHS and also Best Large Village in the UK. Isobel Ives,( chairperson,) received a special award for the devotion she has given to the group since its inception.

Judges were particularly impressed with the floral displays and the skilful blending of colours in the containers in sympathy with their surroundings. They noted the excellent examples of community involvement in planning, constructing, planting and assessing performance of plants to achieve the desired effect throughout the entry.

Landscaping of the Boulevard is almost complete and the area will afford easy access and a place to sit and enjoy the riverbank.

Future plans will include further work in the meadow and we look forward to the results of the September 2007 planting of 1600 wild flower plugs.
