RBS ANNOUNCE REPRIEVE FOR COMRIE BRANCH
Welcoming the announcement by RBS that they have reversed their decision on the closure of a number of Royal Bank of Scotland branches across the country, including the one in Comrie in her constituency, Ms Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Perthshire South & Kinross-shire, said:
“I am very pleased indeed that Comrie is on the list of branches that RBS have announced as having been reprieved from closure.
“Opposition from the local community has been strong and it is clear that RBS have finally taken some recognition of the localised usage figures which I have been pressing for and which they finally provided yesterday.
“Those figures made it clear that the drop in usage of the Comrie branch was substantially and significantly lower than the national average figure that they had previously been using to justify the closures.
“This is, however, only a ‘stay of execution’ and RBS have made clear that they will be applying the ‘use it or lose’ maxim to those branches named today.
“I am also very conscious that this reprieve only applies to ten branches across the country and while I congratulate RBS on being prepared to revisit their initial decision despite having stated they would not, I urge them to further reconsider the future of those branches like Kinross that are still facing closure.”
