Shakey Bridge – A Bridge Engineer’s Thoughts
While we await the report from Dave Stubbs at PKC I received this from Richard Webb a Perth Bridge Engineer who checked out the Shakey Bridge:
The Tree has three living trunks which provide a raised secure platform to the river span and the north span girders. This appears satisfactory. However a fourth rotten trunk is present below deck level. It can no longer stabilise the low level under-deck diagonal so it should be cut out and a new timber springing introduced. At the bed level the tree is well founded with no signs of scour. I trust the above will expedite an inexpensive reinstatement. I will be pleased to advise if requested.

I have passed Richard’s message and contact telephone number to Dave Stubbs at PKC. I hope that we hear something soon !
