PKC Recycling Centres Reopening
Our Recycling Centres will reopen on June 1st but restrictions will apply during the first phase of reopening. Don’t expect your visit to be business as usual.
In the interest of public safety please consider if your journey is necessary and only bring waste that is a priority for disposal. Don’t decide to have a mass clear out now that the sites are reopening!
Please read the info below so you know what to expect when you arrive. All changes have been put in place to protect both staff and site users and to prevent further closures of these sites.
All Recycling Centres will be open to accept bagged domestic general waste only. As part of the phased opening, we will be prioritising the disposal of BAGGED DOMESTIC GENERAL WASTE ONLY. You will be able to dispose of a MAXIMUM OF SIX BAGS per vehicle per day. If you have commercial waste or recycling, please continue to store this until phase 2 of opening.
During phase 1, we will only be allowing access to domestic type vehicles. Please do not try to access the Recycling Centres with a commercial type vehicle including vans and trailers of any size.
We anticipate there will a high volume of householders visiting our sites. Please stay in your car and follow traffic controls and signage. You will not be permitted to queue on the road – if you arrive at the site and there is no room to queue off-road, you must leave and return at another time.
You are also asked to not turn up at any recycling centre before the sites opens, you will not be allowed in and you will be asked to move on.
Please stay in your car until the Site Attendant has indicated the skip bay to use. Only one person from each car can exit the vehicle. Please note, our Site Attendants will not assist with the lifting or carrying of bags.
Please continue to store bulky items or waste generated from DIY, home clearance or garden projects, as these items will not be accepted at this time.
UPDATE: Our waste team has asked us to clarify no vans will be allowed on site during the first phase of the reopening.
Recycling Centres will be opening on the same schedule they were before the lockdown, so not all sites will be open on Monday, June 1st.
If you have glass, paper, cardboard, cans or textiles, please take these to your nearest Recycling Point, or continue to store for phase 2 of opening www.pkc.gov.uk/wheretorecycle
