The Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) have launched a 12 week consultation on its Draft Communities Strategy for Scotland’s National Forests and Land on 31 May 2022.  Forestry and Land Scotland is the Scottish Government agency responsible for managing the public forests and lands owned by Scottish Ministers on behalf of the people of Scotland.

The Strategy sets out the principles and strategic priorities for how we work with communities. The Communities Strategy will sit alongside FLS’ Visitor Services Strategy, and will focus on how communities can get more involved in the decisions, management and use of the national forests and Land

We are looking for input to the FLS Communities Strategy to ensure we have a robust structure to guide the development of FLS Communities Action Plan, to help deliver the objectives of local communities alongside our own. If you are  interested in submitting a response to the consultation you can do so online, or via our Communities mailbox (fls.communities@forestryandland.gov.scot). The consultation is open until 23 August 2022.

In particular the FLS:

  • is consulting on its Draft Communities Strategy, setting out the principles and strategic priorities for how we work with communities to make best use of Scotland’s national forest and land
  • is looking for input from as wide an audience as possible to inform the Strategy, which will form the structure for development of a Communities Action Plan.
  • would be keen to hear from both local communities and communities of interest about how they can get more involved in the national forests and land.
